Mornington Peninsula Wine Region

With its distinct maritime climate, the Mornington Peninsula wine region produces a vast array of quality wines has rapidly built a reputation for as Australia's leading producer of high quality, cool climate wines, in particular Pinot Noir.

Awaiting your discovery are several outstanding, world-famous wineries along with many smaller, brilliant family-owned and wineries that define the unique wine style of the acclaimed Mornington Peninsula wine region

With red volcanic soils and hills rising 300m above sea level, the region's climate is dominated by the strong winds that constantly sweep across the land from both Port Phillip Bay and the Bass Strait. While rain fall is usually reliable, supplementary irrigation is often required during the growing seasons. A prolonged and gentle autumn usually results in fully ripe grapes with outstanding fruit flavours, high natural acidity and fine tannins.

While the region's reputation has been built around excellent vintages of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, you will also find Shiraz, the greatest concentration of Pinot Gris in Australia, and even some Tempranillo.

Golf Courses:

Royal

Royal Melbourne Golf Club is a 36-hole golf club in Australia, located in Black Rock, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne. Its West and East courses are respectively ranked number 1 and 6 in Australia.. The West course is ranked in the top ten courses in the world (or outside the United States) Founded in 1891, it is Australia's oldest extant and continually existing golf club. Royal Melbourne has hosted numerous national and international events, including the 1959 Canada Cup (now Mission Hills World Cup), and the 1970 World Cup. It was selected by the PGA Tour to hold the Presidents Cup, for the first time outside the United States, in December 1998. The match was convincingly won by the International team, captained by Peter Thomson, who had himself earlier served as the Club professional at Royal Melbourne. The course hosted the Presidents Cup again in November 2011, won by the United States. The course also hosted the Women's Australian Open for the first time in February 2012, now an LPGA tour event.

Kingston

Kingston Heath Golf Club is ranked as the number two course in Australia and the 27th best course in the world, Kingston Heath enjoys an enviable reputation for its superb conditioning all year round.

The 18 holes were built on only 125 hectares (most courses in the modern era are built on over 250 hectares), it is perfectly manicured and its bunkering and clever use of dips and hollows visually fools the non- observant golfer.

The three par 3 holes are a feature of Kingston Heath and show off one fantastic feature of this great golf course - the classic, natural bunkering. The fifteenth hole, in particular, is a real test ( not necessarily needed towards the end of your round).

Kingston Heath has hosted the Australian Open 8 times (7 men's & 1 women's) as well as hosting the 2009 Australian Masters. This event saw world number 1 golfer Tiger Woods grace the fairways of The Heath, and he didn't disappoint, displaying superb shot-making over 4 rounds to take out the yellow jacket.

Peninsula

The Peninsula Country Golf Club enjoys a reputation as one of the premier private golf clubs in Australia, with two golf courses ranked in Australia’s top 30 and club facilities of the highest standard.

Perfectly situated at the Gateway to the Mornington Peninsula and only a short drive from the other Sand Belt courses in Melbourne, both Peninsula’s South and North courses are rated amongst the finest in Australia. Peninsula offers 36 holes of golf in the form of North and South courses. The courses complement one another well - the South is a championship course longer, flatter and more open than the North. The North on the other hand is a tighter course, more pronounced in its undulations and there are more trees to catch the wayward shot. It also offers guests the opportunity to stay in picturesque on-course accommodation with excellent on-site dining facilities and club house.

National

The National Golf Club is a 54 hole private members' golf club, providing three unique golfing experiences

Located at Cape Schanck on Victoria's spectacular Mornington Peninsula, a short drive to the south of Melbourne. The Club has 3 exceptional and highly regarded 18 Hole golf courses , the Old designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, The Moonah designed by Greg Norman and The Ocean designed by Thomson, Wolveridge & Perrett ensuring that it ranks as the best piece of golf real estate in the country.

St Andrews Beach

Located in ‘The Cups’ region of the Mornington Peninsula and metres from the thundering surf of Gunnamatta Beach, St Andrews Beach Golf Course originally opened as an exclusive members course and debuted as the 9th best course in Australia in 2006. It is built on a stunning piece of land that lends itself perfectly to the tradition of the famous links courses of Britain and Ireland and can be compared favourably with the courses in Melbourne’s famous sandbelt region. Internationally renowned golf course architect, Tom Doak is the designer of this classic 18 hole links style course and his aim was to create one of the best golf courses in the world.

Woodlands

Woodlands Golf Club, located in the renowned Melbourne Sandbelt. Highly regarded by golfing purists, the championship layout provides a true test of golf. Noted for its high level of course presentation and friendly club atmosphere, Woodlands provides a complete golfing experience.
